This is great! I have not read the entire tutorial, but I found the fix for common problem number 5 (use general format instead of text format) to be very, very useful when downloading SharePoint lists to Excel files on my local PC.
It was driving me nuts because I tried to create a VLOOKUP in an inserted column, but apparently all of the spreadsheet (when downloading from SharePoint) is considered text? Maybe? I would just see the formula, not the VLOOKUP value!
Changing the format to general did the trick! Thanks!
Thank you. This information is easy to understand with examples of errors and solutions. I was able to follow this to resolve my lookup problems. Thanks again!
Hello, I would like to say your site is very informative, thank you. However I have a question for you. I’m trying to use vlookup to find data on one worksheet and populate the result in another, is this possible? However my return data is text not numbers. I want it to look up time slot and tell me is an employees was working that particular day.
In terms of your question about text, yes, that’s also possible, but the text data in both worksheets will need to match exactly eg if you had “Alex” in one worksheet but had “Alex.” in the other and you were trying to get results for “Alex” using the vlookup, it wouldn’t work, as the data doesn’t match. You can try the vlookup with words in the file I provide on this site – the format of the names is exactly the same, so you can see for yourself that it does work with text. Hope that helps.
the way solutions& errors are mentioned is fabulous………& ofcourse thanks
Very Nice and Up to the Mark . A step by step solution.

Hi
Yes – it is possible to get data from one sheet into another – there’s a tutorial on that here: https://howtovlookupinexcel.com/vlookup-between-two-workbooks
